Numerous myths and superstitions have persisted because the truth
about bats is not commonly known. It is believed that they are filthy,
aggressive, rodents, that they all carry disease and rabies,
they fly in your hair, they suck your blood, they are blind, the list
goes on and on.....
Health concerns that we should have, and cautions we should observe
for bats, are the same as those we should apply to all wild animals.

Did you know
that the little brown bat is the acrobat of insect eaters? Catching
a mosquito in it's wings, it slides the bug down to it's tail
and flips it into it's mouth. This two-inch hunter eats half it's
weight in bugs each night.
Little brown
bats may be the most common bats in the United States and Canada.
Covered with brown fur, the little brown weighs only one-quarter
ounce. It often shares it's roost with the big brown bat. There
is so much to be learned about these amazing beneficial creatures!

The
Bat CREW was created in 1999 and is directed by California
bat rehabilitator Lisa
Windflower. The Bat CREW provides rescue,
rehabilitation and release for bats in the San Francisco Bay
area. Our group actively promotes bat conservation through
our educational programs
for schools and other organizations. |
